STEP BY STEP PARUPPU PODI 
INGREDIENTS:
Toor dal          - 1 cup 
Pepper            - 1 tbsp 
Cumin seeds    - 1 tbsp 
Fried gram dal - 2 tbsp 
Asafoetida       - 1/4 tsp 
Red chilli         - 15 or as required 
Garlic              - 5 cloves
Salt                - to taste
HOW TO MAKE:
Dry roast toor dal until golden brown.  Roast Red chilli until black spots appear.  Do not burn.  
Roast fried gram dal until golden brown.  Roast garlic until nice aroma comes.  
Cool down all the roasted ingredients.  Transfer to mixer jar and make a medium coarse powder by adding asafoetida and needed salt.  
TIPS:
Do not add oil for roasting the ingredients.  
Removing peel in garlic is optional.  Adding with peel enhance more garlic flavor.
