AVARAIKKAI PORIYAL / BROAD BEANS PORIYAL


Avaraikkai is one of my favourite vegetable and I have posted sambar recipe a month before.  Last week I bought avaraikkai and thought of posting this easy poriyal recipe for you all.  This poriyal well go with any karakuzhambu and rasam ofcourse with sambar too.  Kids liked this poriyal and my son wants me to make this next week too :-)  Hope I will get avaraikkai in Indian stores this weekend :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Avaraikkai           - 250 grams or 1 cup finely chopped
Moongdhal          - 2 tsp
Salt                      - as needed

To temper:

Oil                        - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds      - 1/4 tsp
Red chillies          - 1 
Asafoetida            - a pinch

HOW TO MAKE:

Cut avaraikkai edges and cut into fine pieces as shown in the picture. Wash well and drain the water. Keep aside. 



Heat oil in a kadai splutter mustard seeds add red chillies and moongdhal.  Add asafoetida.  Just saute them then add chopped avaraikkai.  Add 1/4 cup of water with needed salt and mix well.  Cook well until the water gets absorbed and the vegetable cooked.  If water is not enough just sprinkle some more in the middle.  







TIPS:

Chopped onions can be added instead moongdhal or both can be added.
