SPROUTED MOONG RAVA UPMA / MULAI KATTIYA PAYARU UPMA




After a month of vacation I had no clue what to make for yesterday's dinner.  I make sprouts often and I could see a bag of moong sprouts in the freezer.  Was thinking to make moong dal curry but, I ended up making upma by adding the sprouts.  It was delicious.  It is actually a normal regular upma I just added sprouts in it.  Still different right!!!  Try out it's yummmmm 😋

INGREDIENTS:

Sprouted moong dal         - 1 cup
Rava                                 - 1 cup
Onion                               - 1 chopped onion
Grated ginger                   - 1 tsp
Salt                                   - to taste


TO TEMPER:

Oil                                    - 3 tsp
Mustard seeds                  - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds                    - 1/4 tsp
Urad dal                           - 1 tsp
Channa dal                       - 1 tsp
Asafoetida                        - a pinch
Red chilli                         - 3 break into pieces
Curry leaves                     - few

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat oil in a kadai splutter mustard seeds add cumin seeds, urad dal, channa dal and red chillies.  Add chopped onions and asafoetida.  Fry them well until it transparent.  Add sprouted moong dal.  Saute them 3 to 4 minutes.  Add needed salt.  


Blend the well and add 3 cups of water.  Allow to boil and slowly add rava.  


Stir well without any lumps and check salt at this time.  Add if needed.   Cover it for 3 to 4 minutes.


Serve with your choice of sambar and chutney!


TIPS:

Green chillies can be added instead red chillies. 

I used green moong dal sprouts, but any sprouts can be added or multi bean can be added too.

Quinoa, Semiya also can be used instead rava.
