NUCHINUNDE | SPICY DAL DUMPLINGS


NUCHINUNDE - A perfect blend of three protein rich dal dumplings.  It is famous breakfast or snacks recipe from Karnataka.  In Kannada, Nuchu means broken (Kurunai in Tamil) & Unde means Urundai.  It is prepared by steaming the broken pieces of dal and spices.  It is very tasty and as well gluten free.  Generally, it is prepared using toor dal or combined with toor dal, channa dal & moong dal.  It tastes great with Morekuzhambu and it is called Manji Huli in Kannada.  Enjoy this protein rich dumplings without any accompaniment also.  Do try and enjoy NUCHINUNDE 😋



INGREDIENTS:

Toor dal               - 1 cup
Channa dal          - 1 cup
Moong dal           - 1 cup
Grated coconut    - 1/2 cup
Coriander leaves  - 1/2 bunch chopped finely
Ginger                  - 1 big piece 2"
Green chilli          - 5 to 6 or as needed
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt                      - to taste

HOW TO MAKE:

Soak all the dal together for 1.30 to 2 hours.  Make a fine paste of ginger and garlic.  Make coarse paste of dal without adding water.  In a bowl add coarse dal paste, ginger & garlic paste & turmeric powder.


Add grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves, needed salt. Mix well altogether and take a lemon sized mixture and make an oval or round balls.  


Keep the balls in the idly trary or on the steamer and steam it for 10 to 12 minutes.  Also banana leaf can be placed on the tray and on the top you can keep the balls and steam it.  


After 10 to 12 minutes turn off the stove and serve hot with any chutney, or morekuzhambu is the best treat for this Nuchinunde.

TIPS:
Only toor dal can be used instead all the other dals.  
Coconut can be chop into tiny pieces and that will give nice crunchy texture for this Nuchinunde.

Fenugreek leaves / Methi leaves, Dill leaves, Drumstick leaves can be added.  

Chopped onion, garlic can be added for nice aroma.
