Nellikkai Arachu Kalakki | Amla Pachadi | Nellikai Pachadi | Gooseberry Raita

Nellikkai Arachu Kalakki is a unique side dish from Palakkad. It is a curd based dish and can also be called Nellikai Raita. The name arachu kalakki exactly translates to the process of how this dish is made - arachu means grind and kalakki means mix. This is a quick and simple dish yet super delicious.

In olden days, seasonal fruits like Mangoes, Gooseberries or nellikai would be preserved in large porcelain vessels for the entire year. Whenever they felt like having these seasonal fruits it was always available.

I have been thinking to make raita with Nellikai for months now, and after one of my friends Vidya sent me about this arachu kalakki yesterday, I decided this is the perfect time to make try this recipe.

Trust me this arachu kalakki is such a good recipe - I made this as a side dish for wheat pulao and there was no complaints from my family. They ate well and I had a happy mom moment☺️

Nellikai / Amla / Gooseberry has eight times more vitamin C than an orange, twice the antioxidant power of acai berry, and around 17 times that of a pomegranate. The humble Indian gooseberry, commonly known as amla, truly deserves its superfood status.

Try adding nellikai in your diet often and get the most use of it.
