Aval Payasam | Poha Kheer | Avalaikki Payasa

 

Aval Payasam is one of the easiest payasam recipe which we can made in a jiffy.  Just soak aval for 15 to 30 minutes and the kheer will be ready in another 15 minutes. When festival comes on a working day this kheer is the best and easy option to make it for a prasad.  Try this easy peasy kheer and you will love doing it again and again.

STEP BY STEP AVAL PAYASAM:

INGREDIENTS:

Aval / Poha - 1 cup
Milk            - 3 to 4 cups
Sugar         - 3/4 cup / add as required 
Cardamom - a pinch
Saffron      - a pinch  
Cashews    - as required 
Ghee         - 1 tsp  

HOW TO MAKE:

Wash poha well and soak for 30 minutes. 


After 30 minutes / soaked, the water would absorbed well but if there is any excess water drain it completely. 


 In  a pan add milk and bring it to boil.  


When boiling add soaked poha and sugar. 

Combine well and cook until the sugar dissolve completely. Add cardamom powder and saffron.  Mix well and cook for 2 minutes in a medium flame.

Meanwhile, heat ghee in a separate pan and fry cashews until golden brown. 

Add fried cashews in the kheer.  Combine well.

 

Aval Payasam / Poha Kheer / Avalaikki Payasa is ready to serve. Serve Hot / Warm / Chill


TIPS:

Adding sugar / jaggery is depends on your choice.  For the above measurement I have added 3/4 cup of sugar but add as you required. 

Raisins and other nuts can be added for garnishing. 

Condensed milk can be added instead sugar.
