KOLLU PODI / HORSEGRAM POWDER

Looking for weight loss recipes?! Here is the awesome diet food for weight loss.  Add this powder / podi in your daily podi and feel the difference.  My grandma & mom makes kollu thogayal, chutney and especially kollu rasam.  I just love it :-)  This is my first recipe and I was looking for this horse gram to make kollu recipes for long time.  When I was talking with my friend Sangeetha she told me that she made kollu rasam or something I totally forgot what she made :-( But I asked her where she bought it since I was looking for the same.  She is such a sweet heart, the next week she got me a big packet of kollu from Indian stores.  Thank you dear :-)  The weather was very bad and I could not click any pictures of my recipes so I was keep on postponing to make this podi.  I could not wait for long time and finally last week I just made it and clicked.  I know its still not that good...but I am happy that I made it :-)

Kollu is not even for loosing weight and its great for women's menstrual issues.  I learnt this recipe from one of my andra friend who are very good in podi recipes.  She always have lunch with some podi.  Here is the simple and awesome podi which we can mix with rice or to have with idly or dosa instead of having with idly podi.   Enjoy and try making this podi.

INGREDIENTS:

Kollu / Horsegram   - 1 cup
Channa dhal             - 3 tsp
Urad dhal                 - 3 tsp
Sesame seeds           - 4 tsp
Dry red chillies        - 6 to 7
Asafoetida                - 1/4 tsp
Salt                           - as needed
Oil                            - 1 tsp

HOW TO MAKE:

Carefully remove stones from the kollu.  Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a kadai and roast the kollu until it turn into brown in color.  The kollu will start popping out and it will give nice aroma once it is done. Keep on stirring to avoid the kollu turn into dark.

Keep aside in a plate and start roasting channa dhal, urad dhal and red chillies together.  Roast until it turn into golden brown.  Keep aside.  In the same kadai add sesame seeds and dry roast it.  In a plate add all the roasted ingredients together and allow to cool.

In a mixie / blender add all the ingredients with needed salt and 1/4 tsp of asafoetida.  Grind well and make a fine powder.  Taste the powder and if needed add salt and grind well.

Store it in an airtight container.  Serve with rice or have with idly / dosa instead idly kara podi.

TIPS:

For garlic flavour add 3 to 4 pods and dry roast the same.

Make sure the jar is dry before grinding the powder.
