INIPU AVAL / SWEET POHA

An easy and healthy sweet in 15 mins.  Yes! Aval / Poha is very healthy and eating this regularly can prevent iron deficiency as it contains 20 mg of iron in every 100g raw rice flakes.  It can be prepared very easily and it is highly nutritious.  Very good option for breakfast and children will love it.  I have posted poha laddu last year and this one is can be prepared in 15 mins time which is a yummy sweet. In India, poha is made in different ways and it is a staple breakfast item which can be made easily.  You can have this as a snack in the evening.  You can make coconut poha, tamarind poha, lemom poha and the list will go on!  Recipes will come soon :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Aval / Poha             - 1 cup
Jaggery                   - 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder - a pinch
Grated coconut        - 3 tsp
Salt                          - less than a pinch (optional)

HOW TO MAKE:

Wash poha well and drain the water.  Keep aside for 5 mins and then again sprinkle water on the top. Leave it for 5 mins and then again sprinkle water on the top.  You can do it 3 to 4 times as poha will raise up that is will get fluffy.  Do not add more water.  Grate jaggery or use jaggery powder.

In a kadai / pan add 1/4 cup of water and the jaggery.  Let the jaggery dissolve in the water.  Add pinch of cardamom and less than a pinch of salt.  Then add fluffy poha / aval.  Mix well.  Add grated coconut.  Mix gently without breaking the poha.

TIPS:

Adding salt will enhance the sweet taste and it is an optional.

Always sprinkle water and not to add more.  Adding more water will break the poha or will result watery.

You can add fried cashews and dried grapes too.
