BADAM CHUTNEY / ALMOND CHUTNEY




Almond chutney looks / tastes very much like coconut chutney and it goes very well with idli / dosa and with pongal too.  Last week when I was surfing the net for something I found this badam chutney recipe and pushed me to make it for that day dinner as a side dish for Idli.  We loved this chutney and it was delicious.  It has many varieties and I made it without any onion or coconut.  Almond provide us with immense health benefits and it is lower bad cholesterol also it provides healthy fat and aids in weight loss.  Nowadays I started to make it very often :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Almonds             - 1/4 cup
Ginger                 - small piece
Green chilli         - 3 to 4
Garlic                  - 2 cloves
Salt                      - as needed

To temper:

Oil                        - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds      - 1/4 tsp
Urad dal               - 1/4 tsp

HOW TO MAKE:

Soak badam / almond in a cup of water for 15 minutes.  Peel the skin and in a blender / mixie add all the ingredients and grind it as a fine paste.  Transfer it to the serving bowl.    Heat oil in a kadai splutter mustard seeds and add urad dal.  When it turn into golden brown seasoned on the chutney.  


TIPS:

Red chillies can be added instead green chillies.

Fried onion and coriander leaves can be added.  

Grated coconut can be added.
