CAPSICUM CHUTNEY / BELL PEPPER CHUTNEY / KUDAI MILAGAI CHUTNEY

I have tasted this chutney very first time in my friend Sowmya's home where we gathered for Diwali celebration.  It was very new to me and I did not know what chutney it was!  She told me that she made it with bell pepper and wow....it was delicious.  Awesome Sowmya :-)  I thought of asking her about the recipe but totally forgot.   I did put the name in my To-Do list so that I won't forget :-)  We went to my sister Puvi's home for a vacation and she made it for dosa.  It was too good Puvi :-)  After we came from the vacation I made this scrumptious chutney for dosa and wow.....Now I can make it often :-)  I used red bell pepper and it can be made with green, yellow or orange too.  I did not add any red chilli and for more spice you can add red chillies or green chillies.  We just loved it and it goes well idly and dosa.

INGREDIENTS:

Capsicum         - 1 chopped (I used red) any color should be fine
Tomato            - 1 chopped
Onion (big)      - 1 chopped
Oil                    - 2 tsp
Salt                  - as needed

To temper:

Oil                   - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal        - 1 tsp

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat 2 tsp of oil in a kadai / pan add chopped onion and capsicum.  Saute them and let it turn into transparent.  Add chopped tomatoes.  Add needed salt and saute till tomato turns mushy.  Turn off the stove.  Allow to cool down.

Grind it to a smooth paste.  Transfer it to a serving bowl.  Heat 1/2 tsp of oil in a small pan, splutter mustard seeds and add urad dhal. Add it to the chutney.

TIPS:

You can replace green, yellow capsicum instead of red.

Red chilli can be added if more spice needed.

Grated coconut also can be added.
