CHAKLI / ALL PURPOSE FLOUR MURUKKU / CHAKRI

Chakli is nothing but our Murukku and it is also called as Chakuli / Chakri / Chakali. Usually we make murukku by using rice flour and urad flour.  And this one is prepared by using all purpose flour. A quick and delicious murukku in a easy way.  I have posted  Arisi Murukku,  Pottukadalai MurukkuRagi Murukku Butter Murukku & Maravalli Kizhangu Murukku  and this time am starting diwali recipes with Chakli, a very crispy and savoury snack prepared all over India and especially in Maharashtra they prepare with all purpose flour / maida.  This all purpose chakli / murukku is very tasty snack and I have got this recipe from my friend who is from Gujarat.  Enjoy making this easiest murukku recipe for this Diwali :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Rice flour               - 1 cup
All purpose flour
/ Maid - 1 cup       - 1/2 cup
Melted butter        - 2 tsp
Sesame seeds        - 1 tsp (Roasted)
Asafoetida / Hing - 1/4 tsp
Water                    - as needed
Salt                       - to taste
Oil                        - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

In a bowl add all the ingredients except the oil and knead well by adding little water.

Add water little by little and make a dough.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Meanwhile take a murukku press and stuff little dough.

On the clean surface place a clean wet cloth on butter sheet and start making chaklies.  Check the oil and once it is hot enough drop the murukku in the oil one by one.

Flip the chaklies and fry them till they turn golden brown and crispy both the sides.

Drain it on the paper towel to remove excess oil.

TIPS:

Do not fry too many murukku at a time as they may stick together.

Do not add more butter more than two tsp for this quantity of rice flour and maida.  It will be more crispy and it may get break when frying.

Grease the murukku press with little oil it prevents the dough from sticking to mold.

Add ajwain, cumin seeds instead sesame seeds.

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder to make spicy chakli.
