STEP BY STEP IDLI KARAM PODI:
INGREDIENTS:
Red Chilli - 15
Byadgi chilli - 10 (it gives nice red color)
Black Urad dal - 1/4 cup
Chana dal - 2 tbsp
Garlic - 9 cloves
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tsp
HOW TO MAKE:
In a pan heat 2 tsp of oil and roast red chili till brown spots appear. Do not burn the red chili as the powder may give smoky flavor. Once roasted keep aside.
Dry roast urad dal and chana dal until golden brown and cool down all roasted ingredients completely.
In a mixer first grind red chilli into coarse powder.
Now add roasted chana dal, urad dal, garlic (do not peel the skin) and needed salt.
Grind into coarse powder.
TIPS:
Adding garlic along with skin gives more flavor. Skin can be peeled.
