OATS KOZHUKATTAI


Oats is very healthy food which will nourish our day with healthy breakfast and healthy snack options. As I mentioned in my earlier oats recipes post, we have to add oats in our regular diet.  I always want to give my family different kind of oats recipes which they can really get escape from regular porridge.  I am trying to make and look forward to make different oats recipes and I could say this kozhukattai is the best.  It can be made so quickly and very easily.  It should be eaten when it is hot else it will get little harder.  Try this kozhukattai recipe and use oats in your regular diet to stay healthy.

INGREDIENTS:

Oats                    - 1 cup
Grated coconut   - 3 tsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tsp chopped finely
Salt                      - to taste

To temper:

Oil                      - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds    - 1/4 tsp
Channa dhal       - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal           - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds      - 1 tsp
Red chillies       - 1 break into pieces
Curry leaves      - few
Grated ginger    - 1 tsp
Asafoetida         - a generous pinch

HOW TO MAKE:

In a blender / mixie make a coarse powder of oats.  


Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds add channa dhal, urad dhal then cumin seeds.  Fry and add red chillies.  Fry well until it turn into golden brown.  Add curry leaves, grated ginger and asafoetida. 
Turn off the stove.  In a bowl add grounded oats, grated coconut and chopped coriander leaves.  Add the seasoning.  


Add needed salt and make a dough by adding water little by little.  The dough should not be watery. Do not add more water.  Grease your palm with oil then take a small size ball of mixture.   Give a gentle press and make a pidi kozhukattai.  Making the shape if your choice and it can be even small size of balls like neer urundai.  


Place all the kozhukattai on idly plate and steam cook it.  


It will get cook by 5 to 6 mins.  Serve immediately when it is hot.  Dip with coconut chutney or any chutney of your choice.  


Oats Kozhukattai is ready  :-)



TIPS:

It should be eaten when it is hot so serve immediately once it cooked.  It will get harder if it get cold. Not to worry just microwave it and have.  

Do not add more water, adding more water will result sticky dough.  

Chopped onions can be added too.
