I learnt this mixture recipe from my friend Priti and she is from Nagpur.  There this mixture is called Poha Chivda.  This is very easy snack that we can make it in 20 to 30 mins.  Fry all the ingredients one by one and season it with the spices and the mixture is ready :-)  For 2013 Diwali I have posted Mixture.  This time I learnt Poha mixture from Priti which is a low fat snack and made with less oil.  It's awesome....Thank you for the recipe Priti :-)  Try this wonderful Chivda recipe for this Diwali :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Aval / Poha             - 1 cup
Fried gram dhal      - 1/2 cup
Peanuts                   - 1/2 cup
Cashews                 - 1/4 cup
Garlic                     - 5 cloves with skin
Curry leaves           - 3 strings
Red chilli powder   - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder    - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida              - 2 to 3 pinches
Salt                         - as needed
Oil                          - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

Take aval in a microwave bowl and sprinkle 1/4 tsp of oil. Mix it with spoon and microwave it for 3 mins.  Take out stir it and again keep it for 3 mins.  For a cup of poha keep it for 8 to 9 mins or until it turn into golden brown.  It should be very crispy and crunchy.  Keep it one more min if it needed. Keep aside.  It can be fried instead microwaved.  For frying heat oil in a kadai and fry it until turn into golden brown and drain it in a paper towel.

Heat oil in a kadai fry fried gram dhal drain it on a paper towel, then cashews, peanuts.   Fry these three one by one and drain the excess oil by using paper towel.  Mash the garlic gently and fry them too.

Lastly fry the curry leaves and put it on the fried ingredients.

Heat a tsp of oil in a big pan / tava.  Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt.  Mix well and add the fried ingredients.  Toss well and let the ingredients mix well with the spices.

Allow to cool and store it in an airtight container.

TIPS:

Raisins also can be fried and added.  I don't like sweetness in the mixture hence I avoided adding raisins.
