ONION TOMATO (ONTO) GRAVY



ONTO Gravy - Onion Tomato gravy is the best side dish for Pulao, Briyani and Chappathi.  It is very easy and quick recipe too.  My mom make always like a liquid and that will go well as kurma for dosa and idly :-) My elder daugther does not like tomatoes and whenever I make tomato based food I started to keep some different name and ofcourse that makes her to eat always :-) Yes thats what made me to keep this name for this recipe too :-) Yes ONTO Gravy !!!...She liked so much and I have to thank here to my sister who invented this method to keep the name for her OTG rice to make my daughter to eat :-) It is nothing but Onion Tomato Garlic Rice.. :-)

When I keep the pulao in the microwave I have started to make this gravy and it will get cooked by the time pulao get ready :-)

Preparation time  - 5 Mins
Cooking time      - 15 to 20 Mins

INGREDIENTS:

Onion                    - 1 Finely chopped
Tomato                  - 1 Finely chopped
Ginger garlic
paste                      - 1 Tsp
Garam masala       - 1 Tsp
Chilli powder        - 1/2 Tsp
Coriander powder - 1 Tsp
Turmeric powder  - 1/4 Tsp
Salt                       - As needed
Oil                        - 1 Tsp
Cumin seeds        - 1/2 Tsp

To grind:

Grated coconut    - 3 Tsp
Cashews              - 4 to 5
Fennel seeds        - 1/2 Tsp
Kus kus               - 1/2 Tsp

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds and chopped onions and fry the onions till turn brown in color.
Add chopped tomatoes, garam masala, chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix it well.  Cook the same for 5 minutes and it will turn as a gravy.


In the mean time make a smooth paste use the to grind items and and pour the same into the gravy.


 Add 1/4 glass of water and cook it for 5 more minutes and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.


So, ONTO gravy is ready to serve with Pulao, Briyani or Chappathis :-)



TIPS:

Add more water in you need liquid gravy and that will go well with Idly and Dosa like kurma.

You can add boiled eggs and make this as egg gravy too.
