CHEGODILU / RING MURUKU



Chegodilu is very famous for Andra snack.  I never knew this is an authentic snack from Andra and we used to call as Kola vadai / Ring muruku.  It always tempting us in our childhood days and ofcourse now too :-).  In Trichy (my native) they used to sell packets of these and I never came out without buying this snack.  Its been a long time that I made snack at home and suddenly this snack flashed in my mind and I called my friend for the recipe who is from Visag. Let me not bored you guys and lets go for the preparation of Chegodilu.. :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Rice flour             - 1 cup
Moongdhal flour/
Urad dhal flour     - 2 tsp ( I used urad dhal flour)
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder  - 1/4 tsp (optional)
Cumin seeds         - 1 tsp
Sesame seeds       - 1 tsp
Asafoetida            - a pinch
Melted butter       - 2 tsp
Salt                      - as needed
Oil                       - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

In a bowl add rice flour, urad dhal / moongdhal flour, cumin & sesame seeds, red chilli & turmeric powder, asafoetida, melted butter and needed salt.  Knead till you get a smooth dough by adding water little by little.  Make a smooth dough as shown in the pic.



Take a small ball of dough and roll it like not thin or thick rope.  Make it as a medium size.  Then join the ends to make rings as shown in the pics.



Heat oil in a kadai and fry 5 to 6 rings batch wise.  While the first batch is getting fried you can start to make the rings for second batch.  Fry the rings until it turned as golden brown and the sounds of the bubbles reduces.




Chegodilu / Ring Muruku is ready for your snack time :-)




TIPS:

Do not keep the dough for long time after mix it.  Keeping dough for long time, the muruku will get dark brown.

Cover the dough in a wet cloth to keep the moisture of the dough till you fry.

Always keep the flame in a same volume to get the rings cook evenly.

I used cumin seeds well with sesame for the flavour.  You can use either one too.
