RAGI MURUKU / MINI RAGI MURUKU

Interested in making cute tiny murukus for this Diwali 2014? This recipe is easy to make; but different from the traditional method of making murukus using rice flour and urad flour.  Instead, it is based on ragi flour which is not only healthy but yummy too :) Our kids loved them as they look so cute. It is easy and comes out very crispy.  Enjoy and do try it for your family, friends and relatives :) Let me know what you think!!!

INGREDIENTS:

Ragi flour              - 2 cups
Rice flour              - 1 cup
Pottukadalai flour - 1/2 cup
Melted Butter       - 1 1/2 tsp
Sesame seeds        - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds         - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Hing / Asafoetida - a pinch
Salt                       - as needed
Oil                        - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

Grind the pottukadalai in a mixie and make a fine powder.  In a bowl add all the ingredients.

Mix well and by adding water little by little make a fine dough.  Take a muruku press and I used a star one.  I used a single whole for doing this tiny muruku and you can use the three wholes if you want to make a big ones.  Meanwhile heat oil in a deep kadai.  Fill up the dough in the muruku press.

In a dry cloth or in a thick tissue make small circle by pressing the muruku press.  Once the oil heaten up drop the murukus one by one in the oil.

You can make 7 to 8 tiny murukus in one batch or depends on the kadai and the oil quantity you use.
Let the murukus turn crispy. Once oil ceases off take out the murukus and drain the oil in a tissue.
Follow the same way for the balance dough.

Tiny Ragi muruku is ready.  You can store it in a air tight container and it stays atleast for two weeks.

TIPS:

Do not add more water when making the dough.  The dough consistency should be like the normal muruku dough we do.

Ajmin also can be added.

You can add even garam masala for making masala murku.
