OATS KHICHDI




Another easy recipe that can be prepared without much effort. Yes, Oats Khichdi!!  It is good, nutritious and healthy food which we can make it easily on a busy day.  Oats has many nutritional benefits, which is a source of minerals and dietary fiber.  It helps for weight loss and one who wants to avoid rice, oats is a best substitution for rice.  Add oats to your regular diet and enjoy its health benefits.  


INGREDIENTS:

Steel cut Oats                         - 1 cup
Yellow moongdal                   - 3 tsp
Onion                                     - 1 finely chopped
Tomato                                   - 1 finely chopped
Geen peas                              - 1/4 cup                              
Green chilli                            - 2 
Grated ginger                         - 1 tsp
Grated garlic                          - 1 tsp 
Turmeric powder                   - 1/4 tsp
Garam masala                        - 1 tsp
Asafoetida                             - 2 generous pinches
Salt                                         - to taste

To temper:

Oil / Ghee                               - 1 tsp (I used ghee)
Mustard seeds                        - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds                           - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves                           - few

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker splutter mustard seeds and add cumin seeds.  Add chopped onions, grated ginger and garlic.  Let the onion turn transparent then add chopped tomatoes. Add green peas and green chilli. Add, turmeric powder, garam masala  asafoetida and curry leaves.  Let the tomatoes gets tender then add oats.  
                     

Add moongdal along with 2 1/2 cups of water.  Mix well and cover with a lid.  Allow 3 whistles.  Let the steam released enjoy hot oats khichdi!



TIPS:

Add more veggies like carrot, beans and capsicum.  Vegetables are absolutely your choice.  

Green moongdal can be added instead yellow one.  

Toor dal can be added instead moong dal.

Red chilli powder or red chilli can be used instead green chilli. 

I like ghee hence I added.  You can add any cooking oil, coconut oil , mustard oil or olive oil.
