STEP BY STEP RASAM RICE
INGREDIENTS:
Rice - 1 cup
Toor dal - 1 tsp
Tamarind - lemon sized
Tomato - 1 big
Garlic - 1 handsful
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Water - 5 cups (2 cups for tamarind)
Ghee - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Crushed pepper - 1/4 tsp
Red chili - 2
Coriander leaves - for garnishing
Salt - to taste
HOW TO MAKE:
Soak tamarind in a cup of water for 20 minutes. Extract tamarind juice for 2 cups by adding water. Keep aside. Wash rice and dal together and keep aside. Crush garlic and and do not remove the all the peels. Can leave some as it gives more flavor to rasam.
Turn on saute mode in instant pot. Heat ghee or oil. Splutter mustard seeds, add cumin seeds, chopped tomato, red chili, crushed garlic, turmeric powder, asafoetida, rasam powder and curry leaves.
Combine well then add rice and dal. Mix well. Add needed salt. Add tamarind water along with 3 cups of water (add as required).
Cover and pressure cook 9 minutes. Once done garnish with coriander leaves. Hot and Spicy One Pot Rasam Rice is ready.
Serve Hot & Spicy Rasam Rice with Papad or any curry of your choice.
TIPS:
Garlic can be skipped if you want to make satvik food.
