CHICKPEAS VADA

Healthy protein vada for evening snack. Last evening we had a birthday party for our kids and made channa masala.  Just remembered that I kept balance soaked chickpeas in the fridge and it triggered me to prepare vada with chickpeas for evening snack.  Used the same ingredients what we normally do for masala vada.  Here is the chickpeas vada step by step which will go well with tea and coffee.  Try out you will not be disappointed :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Chickpeas             - 1 cup
Rice flour              - 2 tsp
Besan flour            - 2 tsp
Red chilli powder  - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder   - 1/4 tsp
Shallots                  - 2 to 3 strings finely chopped
Onion                    - 1 finely chopped
Asafoetida             - a pinch
Salt                        - as needed
Oil                         - for deep frying

HOW TO MAKE:

Soak chickpeas over night. Drain the water and just give a quick stroke and make a coarse paste.  In a bowl add coarsely grounded chickpeas, rice flour, besan flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, finely chopped onion and shallots, asafoetida and salt.

Combine all the ingredients and mix well.  Take a little amount of mixture and make a small balls of it.  Keep aside.  Heat oil in a kadai.  Grease your palm and take one small ball and just flatten the ball with other hand fingers.

Once the oil heated up start frying the vadas.  Cook both sides until turn into brown in color.  The oil will reduce the ceases sound and that time you can take out the fried vadas.

Drain the vadas in the tissues.  Serve hot with chutney or sauce.

Chickpeas vada ready.

TIPS:

Wash the chickpeas and drain without any water.  When grind do not add water.

Mix the ingredients with fingers not with palm like we make for chappathi dough.

Always check salt chilli taste before start frying and add if needed.
