PAL PAYASAM / MILK KHEER



A simple and easy payasam recipe for this Tamil New Year.  An Indian style pudding is a very popular sweet cum dessert in India.  This kheer is quick and easy recipe with minimal cooking time.  Lets go for the recipe in step by step :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Rice                         - 1/2 cup
Milk                        - 8 cups
Sugar                       - 1 cup
Saffron                    - a pinch
Cardamom powder - a pinch
Cashews                 - 5 to 6 broken
Ghee                       - 2 tsp

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat a tsp of ghee in the kadai and fry the cashews until turn into brown in color.  Remove the cashews and keep aside.  In a mixie put rice and give 2 to 3 strokes and make grains.  Heat the balance ghee in a kadai, add broken rice.  Fry for 2 to 3 mins.


Add milk and stir well continuously and cook until the milk absorbed and the mixture becomes medium thick.  Stir well and it will take 15 to 20 minutes to get thick consistency.




Cook well, stir often until the rice get cooked.  Add saffron and fried cashews.  Mix well.

Pal payasam / Rice Kheer is ready.  Serve hot or chilled.
