LENTIL DHAL CURRY


A simple lentil dhal with brocoli, very healthy lunch for kids.  Lentils are staple ingredient in South Asian cuisine.  Dhal which will go well with rice and roties which has more proteins.  Here is the two simple steps for this curry.

INGREDIENTS:

Red lentil dhal        - 1 cup
Onion                     - 1 finely chopped
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Green chillies         - 1
Garam masala        - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder   - 1/4 tsp
Lemon juice           - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves    - 1 to 2 tsp finely chopped for garnishing
Salt                         - as needed

To temper:

Ghee                       - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds            - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida               - a pinch
Bay leaf                   - 1

HOW TO MAKE:

Wash the dhal and pressure cook it with 3 to 4 whistles.  Let the cooker release the steam.  Mash the dhal well with whisk and keep aside.



Heat ghee in a kadai add cumin seeds and bay leaf.  Add chopped onions and ginger garlic paste.  Fry will until it turn into transparent and the nice aroma comes.  Add asafoetida and green chilies.  Add garam masala.  Blend well then add the mashed dhal.  Add turmeric powder and needed salt.  Mix well and mashed dhal.  Mix all the masala together and add lemon juice.  Turn off the stove and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.  Add water as per needed consistency.  Normally I will serve thick so I didnt add water.



Serve hot with rice or chappathies.
