CHINA GRASS PUDDING / AGAR AGAR PUDDING



China Grass / Agar Agar is called "Kadal Paasi" in Tamil.  It is a type of gelatin extracted from sea weed.  Agar agar is mainly used for making jellies, custard and puddings.  It is very good for health and best body coolant too especially in summer.  It is available in the form of strands and powder.  I never come across this China Grass until I saw it in Indian Store.  I had no clue about this and always I skip that section.  I was very curious for what it is been used so I surfed for some recipes.  Wonder that are using to make jellies and pudding as I mentioned in the beginning.  Now I can start with making Agar agar recipes!!!  Stay tuned :-) You will love it!


INGREDIENTS:

China grass / Agar Agar        - 1 tsp (I used powder)
Milk                                       - 2 Cups
Water                                     - 1 cup
Condensed milk                    - 3/4 cup
Vanilla essence                     - few drops

HOW TO MAKE:

In a pan / kadai take a cup of water.  Add china grass powder and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes. After 10 minutes along with the water boil the agar agar in the medium flame and soon the powder will get melt and dissolve with water.  Stir well to avoid lumps.  Meanwhile boil milk. 


When the milk boils add condensed milk and mix well.  Stir well.  When the agar agar dissolved completely with the water add it in the milk.  Mix well for a minute or two then turn off the stove.  Milk will be in running texture only and it will get thicken when it starts to cool down.    


Add vanilla essence and mix well.  Pour it in different shape moulds or in a bowl and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours.  


Serve chilled.  


TIPS:

Adding essence are your choice.

You can add sugar instead condensed milk. 

Adding cardamom powder will add fragrance.
