MULAI KEERAI MASIYAL / AMARNATH LEAVES GRAVY



A healthy and delicious spinach dish in three steps.  Yes...Mulai keerai / Amarnath leaves which has a best quality of nutrition like lactose and fiber.  This variety of spinach is called as the "Queen" of all the spinach.  One of the best variety of spinach that is can be eaten by all the age groups.  The magnificent values present in this spinach cures many rare diseases.  I love this spinach in any form like poriyal, kootu, sambar just as masiyal.  This recipe takes just three steps and a healthy one which makes the body strong.  


INGREDIENTS:

Mulai keerai / Amarnath leaves - 1 bunch
Garlic                                          - 5 to 6 cloves
Salt                                              - as needed

To temper:

Oil                                                - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds                              - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds                                 - 1 tsp
Urad dhal                                     - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida                                   - a pinch
Curry leaves                                - few

HOW TO MAKE:

Remove the leaves from the stem and wash well.  In a deep vessel add 1/4 cup of water along with keerai and garlic.  Add needed salt.  Allow cook well.  


Allow to cool down and in a blender or mixie make a fine paste of it.  Transfer into the serving bowl. Heat oil in a separate pan splutter mustard seeds, add urad dhal and cumin seeds.  Add curry leaves and asafoetida.  Season it on the top of the mixture and mix well.  Serve hot with rice, topping of a tsp ghee. 


TIPS:

I didnt add any spicy in this masiyal.  Red chilli can be added when tempering.  

Green chillies can be added with spinach and garlic.  If you add green chilli then red chilli can be avoided.

Finely chopped onions can be added when tempering.
