RICE VADAM / ARISI VATHAL / RICE PENI - by using leftover rice

Summer time is always special for vadams in tamil nadu.  Every house will start to make variety of vadams.  Can be eaten as snack, side dish for rice varieties.  I love this vadam and when my mom start to fry I started to eat one by one :-)  No more blah blah blah...lets go to make Rice Vadam by using leftover rice...Start your summer by making this easy peasy Rice vadam :-)

INGREDIENTS:

Leftover rice          - 3 cups (Take a qty as much you have)
Cumin seeds          - 2 tsp
Green chillies        - 2
Salt                        - as needed

HOW TO MAKE:

In mixie make a paste of green chillies and cumin seeds.  Then add this paste with rice and make a fine paste with needed salt.  Sprinkle water do not add much.  The paste should not be watery.  It should be like thick dough.

Take a muruku press and choose the design plate as you wish.  I used star as well thenkuzhal press.  In the murku press put a ladle of rice paste and start to make muruku shape, a line, or a circle on a plastic sheet.  Place the plastic sheet outside balcony or on outdoor place where the sunlight will come directly. So that the vadam will get dry in a day or two.

The pic which you see down the 1st pic is the sec day of the vadam.  It got dried on a sec day and I have removed from the plastic sheet and moved to another sheet.  Keep that one more day and the 3rd pic is well dried one which is ready for fry.  Keep it in an airtight container and fry it whenever you needed.  It last for long.

Heat oil in a kadai and start to fry vadams little by little.  Drain it on a tissue and serve with rice or munch as snack.

Crispy vadam is ready :-)

TIPS:

The vadams should dry and there should not be any wet.  Dried vadams only will give crispy vadams.

Do not add more water when you make a paste.  It should be thick like Muruku dough.
