Onion Pakoda | Crispy Vengaya Pakoda | Pyaz ke Pakore | Thool Pakkoda




Onion Pakoda/ Pakora is a deep fried snack made with onion, besan flour, rice flour as well as other spices. These pakodas are commonly prepared in India for an evening snack - it is a super delicious starter dish too. It is also a popular Indian street food - in Trichy they call it as Thool Pakoda. Perfect for rainy weather 😋 Enjoy munching this pakoda with hot tea!!

STEP BY STEP ONION PAKODA:

INGREDIENTS:

Big Onion              - 1 Cup
Besan Flour           - 1/2 Cup
Rice Flour             - 2 tbsp
Grated Ginger       - 1 tbsp
Red Chilli Powder- 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder  - 1/4 tsp
Coriander Leaves  - few
Asafoetida             - 1/4 tsp
Salt                        - to taste
Oil                         - for deep frying
Water                     - if needed (I used 1 tbsp)

HOW TO MAKE:

Cut onion into thin slices.  Along with sliced onions, add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander leaves, asafoetida, grated ginger and needed salt.  Mix well without adding water.


Add besan flour and rice flour along with a tbsp of hot oil.  Mix well, sprinkle water if needed.  Bring it to thick consistency not watery.


Carefully drop the mixture in hot oil.  Do not overcrowded.  Flip often and cook till golden and crispy.

Once cooked remove from hot oil and place it on the paper towel to remove excess oil.  


Perfect crispy & yummy snack is ready.  Serve hot with chai and it is a perfect appetizer / starter for a party time. 


TIPS:

Chopped green chillies can be added.  

Adding hot oil will result crispy pakodas and i have added hot oil to avoid baking soda.
