Urad dal porridge is one of the most healthiest and nutritious breakfast items. It contains protein, potassium, calcium and iron. Since it has a rich source of iron, it is very good for women and especially for the girls during after they hit puberty. It also helps soothe joint pain and back pain. This porridge is very good for toddlers as well. Try to add it in your regular diet and stay healthy!

STEP BY STEP URAD DAL PORRIDGE POWDER:

INGREDIENTS:

Urad Dal             - 1 Cup
Cardamom          - 2

HOW TO MAKE:

Dry roast urad dal till golden brown.  Do not burnt.  Cool down completely. 


Make a fine powder along with cardamom.  If you are making for babies sieve and make even more fine powder. 


Store in an airtight container.  


HOW TO MAKE PORRIDGE WITH INSTANT URAD DAL MIX 

Porridge for one person:

Urad Dal Porridge Powder - 2 tbsp
Water                             - 1/2 Cup
Milk                                - 3/4 - 1 Cup or as required
Palm Sugar                     - 1 tbsp

How to make:

For one person take 2 tbsp of urad dal porridge powder and mix without any lumps with 1/4 cup of water. Add 1/4 more water make it watery. 


Cook in saucepan and stir often to avoid sticking to the bottom.  It will form little thicker and do stir continuously.  


Add a cup of 3/4 cup of milk and bring to boil.  


Add palm sugar and mix well.  Regular sugar or jaggery can be added as well.  Cook for two more minutes and bring to needed consistency.  Serve Hot / Cold / Warm.

TIPS:

Adding palm sugar is good for health.  But regular sugar, jaggery or brown sugar can be added.

I did not sieve it as my kids all grown up, but for babies / toddlers sieve well and make even fine powder.
