KARUNA KIZHANGU MASIYAL / YAM MASIYAL




INGREDIENTS:

Karunakizhangu / Yam  - 3 to 4
Onion                             - 1 finely chopped
Turmeric powder           - 1/4 tsp
Salt                                 - as needed

To temper:

Oil                        - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds      - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal broken - 1/2 tsp
Red chillies          - 2
Curry leaves         - few
Asafoetida            - a pinch


HOW TO MAKE:

Wash the Yam / Karunakizhangu and pressure cook it.  Allow 4 to 5 whistles and cool it down.  Peal the skin and mash it well.  Keep aside.


Heat oil in a kadai splutter mustard, add urad dhal, asafoetida and curry leaves.  Add chopped onions and fry well until turn in brown in color.  Add mashed yam / kizhangu, turmeric powder and needed salt.


Sprinkle water and mash well and cook it for 5 more minutes.  Transfer into serving bowl.


Karuna kizhangu masiyal ready!




Serve with Thakkali rasam / Tomato rasam :-)

TIPS: 

To add sweet taste then add 1/4 tsp of jaggery powder when you add turmeric and salt.

Add red chilli powder once you fried onion instead of red chillies.

Add coriander and garam masala as per choice.
