VEN PONGAL

INGREDIENTS:

Raw rice                              - 1 Cup
Moongdhal  / Paasi parupu - 1/4 Cup
Water                                  - 4 Cups
Salt                                     - as needed

To temper:

Ghee                 - 1/4 to 1/2 Cup
Cumin seeds     - 1 tbsp
Crushed Pepper - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves   - few
Cashews         - 8 -10


HOW TO MAKE:

In a pressure cooker heat ghee and roast moong dal till light brown.  Wash rice and add along with 4 cups of water. 

Pressure cook and allow 4 to 5 whistles.  Once the steam released mash well. 


Heat ghee add cumin seeds, crushed black pepper, curry leaves and cashews.  Roast till cashews are golden brown.  Temper on the cooked rice, add needed salt and mix well.  Add 3 to 4 tbsp or as required.  Mix well. 



Serve hot with sambar or chutney.


TIPS:

I would suggest adding milk is not required for making ven pongal.

Grated ginger can be added for more flavour .
