STEP BY STEP INSTANT POT HORSE GRAM DAL KHICHDI
INGREDIENTS:
Sprouted Horse Gram Dal - 1 Cup (soak horse gram over night and keep covered for 2 - 3 days for sprouting) Or use soaked dal next day
Rice - 1 Cup
Onion - 1 big thinly sliced
Tomato - 2 chopped
Ginger Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Green Chilli - 3 - 4
Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp
Garam Masala - 1 tbsp
Cumin Powder - 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Mint Leaves - few
Coriander Leaves - few
Salt - to taste
Water - 5 cups or as required
TEMPER:
Ghee / oil - 2 tbsp
Star Anise - 2
Bay leaf - 2
Cinnamon stick - 1 small stick
Clove - 3 - 4
HOW TO MAKE:
Soak horse gram dal over night, wash well and drain the water completely. Keep covered for 2 - 3 days for sprouting. Can be used next day without sprouting too.
Turn on instant pot saute mode. Heat oil or ghee, add star anise, bay leaf, cinnamon stick and cloves. Add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste and green chilli along with needed salt. Mix well and cook until onion translucent.
Add chopped tomato, mint leaves, red chilli powder, garam masala, cumin powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and cook until tomatoes are soft.
Tomatoes are soft and oil separates. Turn off saute mode.
Add sprouted horse gram dal and rice.
Add 5 cups of water or as needed. Mix well. Close instant pot and seal the vent. Turn on pressure cook mode and keep 5 minutes.
Horse Gram Dal Khichdi is ready.
Mix well and Serve Hot.
TIPS:
Add any vegetables of your choice.
Pressure cook time may vary depends on rice.
If using pressure cooker keep 6 - 7 whistles.
Clean horse gram before soaking, as it may have some stones so clean well.
Red chillies can be added instead green chillies.
