KARA PIDI KOZHUKATTAI



INGREDIENTS:

Rice flour          - 1 Cup
Grated coconut - 1/4 Cup
Ghee                 - 1 Tsp
Salt                   - as needed

To Temper:

Oil                          - 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds         - 1/2 Tsp
Urad dhal (broken) -  1/2 Tsp
Asafoetida              - 1/4 Tsp
Red chilli                - 3 to 4 nos

HOW TO MAKE:

Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds, add urad dhal add the red chillies (break it) and asafoetida.  In a bowl take a rice flour, add grated coconut, ghee, salt and the fried items.  Add enough warm water and make a soft dough.


Grease your palm and take a small ball of the dough, and press it with fingers to retain the shape as showed in the picture.



                                     

Do the same process until you finish the dough and grease the idly plate and place all the kozhukattaies and steam it for 15 minutes.



Kara kozhukattaies are ready to serve :-)



TIPS:

The same way to do the sweet kozhukattai, instead of add the temper items, make a jaggery syrup and make a dough.
